Volkswagen has released a series of obscure teaser images that preview a brand new concept called GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo. As its name implies, the concept was designed primarily for the Gran Turismo 6 video game.
Volkswagen explains that its next concept is an update of the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo that was shown late last year at the Los Angeles Motor Show. A GTI in name only, the concept gains a deep front bumper with a race-inspired splitter, a large air dam with honeycomb inserts, vertical LED fog lights and new concept-specific headlights.
The modifications continue out back with what has to be one of the largest spoilers ever fitted to a GTI in the nameplate’s nearly 40-year history, a massive carbon fiber air diffuser integrated into the lower bumper and a pair of chromed round exhaust pipes. Air vents integrated into the hood, side skirts and slim door mirrors lower the GTI’s drag coefficient, while NACA ducts built into the roof panel direct air into the cabin.
Volkswagen has not revealed what the GTI Supersport is powered by. The GTI Roadster concept was fitted with a 3.0-liter FSI V6 engine that used two beefy turbochargers to generate 503 horsepower – over twice the output of a stock GTI – and 413 foot-pounds of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission controlled by shift paddles transferred the six-cylinder’s grunt to all four wheels with the help of a sport-tuned version of Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Enthusiast website Pistonudos predicts that Volkswagen will fully reveal the GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo concept at the annual Wörthersee meet that will take place in Austria in a couple of weeks. It goes without saying that the concept will not spawn a wild evolution of the GTI, but Gran Turismo players will be able to download it this coming summer and take it for a virtual spin around their favorite track.
