Acer’s C910 is a 15-inch Chromebook with 1080p display and awesome performance

Hardware and software manufacturer Acer America announced the development of the Acer C910 Chromebook on March 19. The device has a fifth generation Intel Core i5 processor to deliver class-leading power.

“The new faster performing Acer C910 Chromebook with an Intel Core i5 processor is raising the bar for Chromebook performance,” said Carlos Siqueiros, mobility business manager at Acer America. “Its advanced technology will boost productivity and help our education and commercial customers get the most out of their Chromebook experience for collaboration on important projects and research.”

The Acer C910 has a 15.6-inch display, and comes with either a full HD IPS (1920×1080 resolution) panel or an HD display (1366×768 resolution). Both options have anti-glare properties to reduce eyestrain.

At only 4.85 pounds, Acer is marketing the laptop for not only its speed, but also its portability. It claims up to eight hours of battery life. On-the-go connections come via 802.11AC Wi-Fi with MIMO technology. Users can also connect peripherals over Bluetooth 4.0.

In terms of physical connectivity, the Acer C910 has a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, and an HDMI port.

If these specifications sound familiar, it’s because they’re very similar to the Acer Chromebook 15 we recently reviewed. The C910 is a business-oriented model, which means it offers a more subdued look and, of course, quicker hardware.

The Acer C910 will hit the U.S. market at the beginning of April. The suggested manufacturer’s price is $499.99. That’s $150 more than the top-tier Chromebook 15, so you do pay a premium for the quicker processor.

Trying to buy a GPU in 2023 almost makes me miss the shortage
Two AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards on a pink surface.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.

In a generation where no single GPU stands out as the single best graphics card, it's hard to jump on board with the latest from AMD and Nvidia. I don't want to see another GPU shortage, but the state of the graphics card market is far from where it should be.
This generation is all over the place

This tiny ThinkPad can’t quite keep up with the MacBook Air M2
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
