Acer Targets Businesses with $399 Veriton N260G Nettop

Acer Veriton N260G

Computer maker Acer is looking to increase its share of the U.S. “professional” market with its new Veriton N260G nettop computer—and by “professional,” Acer means things like offices and reception areas, but also sites like classrooms, libraries, call centers, and kiosks where form-factor and space savings are perhaps more important than raw horsepower or mammoth storage.

“The Veriton N260G is a convenient, low-maintenance device for accomplishing basic computing tasks in areas where there is little desk space,” said Acer’s commercial systems business manager Leila Axelle Robert, in a statement. “This nettop delivers a streamlined solution for a small investment with a low total cost of ownership.”

Under the hood, the Veriton N260G doesn’t pack many surprises: it’s an Atom N280 processor running at 1.66 GHz with Windows XP, 2 GB of RAM, and a 160 GB hard drive. The system does feature a multi-in-one media card reader, six USB ports (two in front, four in back), a mic input, a PCI Express Mini 1.1 slot, gigabit Ethernet, and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi—and, surprisingly, HDMI output, potentially for connecting to a large screen for signage or display purposes.

The Veriton N260G also features a VESA mount that lets users mount the unit on the back of VESA-compatible flat-screen displays; the mounting system is designed to keep the power button and memory card reader accessible at the top of the unit.

The Veriton N260G is available now at prices starting at $399.

Trying to buy a GPU in 2023 almost makes me miss the shortage
Two AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards on a pink surface.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.

In a generation where no single GPU stands out as the single best graphics card, it's hard to jump on board with the latest from AMD and Nvidia. I don't want to see another GPU shortage, but the state of the graphics card market is far from where it should be.
This generation is all over the place

This tiny ThinkPad can’t quite keep up with the MacBook Air M2
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
