Following the news from Google on Monday that all future Chromebooks would support Android apps, Adobe announced on Tuesday that six of its Android apps will be receiving the Chromebook treatment. Updated versions optimized for the popular, inexpensive laptop will be arriving for free via the Google Play Store later this month.

The six apps coming to Chromebooks are Photoshop Mix, Lightroom Mobile, Illustrator Draw, Photoshop Sketch, Adobe Comp CC, and Creative Cloud Mobile. The free apps lack much of the advanced functionality of the full desktop versions, but are well suited for students, which Adobe sees as a key target demographic for this release. The announcement was made ahead of the Bett Show, Europe’s largest trade show focusing on the intersection of education and technology. Chromebooks have become favored in schools for their simplicity, security, and low price.

“The popularity of Chromebooks in the classroom has exploded, and we’re thrilled to offer students access to Adobe tools on these devices, allowing them to learn the way they do best — by doing and creating,” said Mark Rupert, senior director of education at Adobe, in a statement. “As a company, our goal is to empower every student to be a lifelong creator and having our free mobile apps on Chromebooks helps us reach millions more students who can bring their ideas to life.”

Adobe had previously commissioned a study to determine the importance of technology in the classroom, surveying students and educators in schools throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany. Unsurprisingly, it found that both students and teachers viewed technology in the classroom as vitally important. 90 percent of students and 76 percent of teachers said technology was key to their future careers, and 78 percent of students and 88 percent of teachers also agreed that creativity was crucial to students’ success.

Google might be developing an M1 competitor for Chromebooks

Google might be developing a competitor for Apple's M1 processor. Reportedly aiming for a 2023 release, the new custom Google processor could come to new Chromebooks, and other devices powered by Chrome OS.

According to a report from Nikkei Asia, the move comes because Google sees potential for growth. It recognizes that "major tech players see in-house chip development as key to their competitiveness," according to the publication. This rumored new processor could also be based on technology from ARM, a chip company that already designs the technology found in PC and laptop processors from Qualcomm.

ZTE Axon 30 Ultra vs. Google Pixel 5: Head-to-head comparison
The app display on the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra

The ZTE Axon 30 Ultra is a seriously powerful smartphone for its price. At only $749, it still provides the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a big 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, a long-lasting 4,600mAh battery, and a quad-lens rear camera. It's a phone to take seriously if you're in the market for a new Android phone, even if the lack of 5G support (in the United States) and wireless charging is less than ideal. But it isn't the only impressive smartphone in its price bracket, and top of the list of its rivals must surely be the Google Pixel 5, which for $699 gives you one of the best cameras around, as well as great software, decent performance, a sharp OLED screen, and an endurable battery.

So which one is best? To answer this question, we put the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra and Pixel 5 through their paces, weighing them up in a head-to-head comparison test. We examine their specs, designs, displays, performance, cameras, and special features, putting all of these areas together to find out which is the better reasonably priced Android overall.
