Gamers eager for AMD to release more affordable graphics cards from the Radeon RX 6000 series won’t have too much longer to wait. The Radeon RX 6900 XT and Radeon RX 6800 XT only debuted late last year, but rumors of a March launch for the Radeon RX 6700 XT may actually prove to be accurate. This could give gamers an alternative to Nvidia’s more budget-oriented GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti cards.
According to a listing on the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) spotted by Komachi_Ensaka, partner Gigabyte has registered six Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics cards. This suggests that a launch may be imminent, though the listing did not give any specific timing for when that could occur. The cards are listed with 12GB of GDDR6 memory, down from the 16GB available on AMD’s Radeon RX6800 XT. The reduced memory is to be expected, given that the 6700 XT is a more affordable model in the 6000 series lineup.
The models listed with the EEC include the GV-R67XT-12GD-B, GV-R67XTAORUS E-12GD, GV-R67XTGAMING OC-12GD, GV-R67XTGAMING-12GD, GV-R67XTEAGLE OC-12GD, and GV R67XTEAGLE-12GD. According to PC Gamer, this means that Gigabyte is aiming to launch one premium Aorus cards, two gaming cards, two Eagle cards, and a reference design from the manufacturer. It’s believed that at least two of those models will be overclocked.
Prior rumors suggested that the 6700 XT cards will be built on AMD’s Navi 22 XT graphics architecture, which will come with 40 compute units and 2,560 stream processors alongside a 192-bit memory bus. Clock speeds are still unknown at the time. This means that the 6700 XT will come with 20 fewer compute units and 1,280 less stream processors than the Radeon RX 6800. It’s speculated that the Radeon RX 6700 XT will deliver performance comparable to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti from Nvidia.
Pricing information on the 6700 XT was not revealed, but it seems likely that these new cards could be priced competitively, with AMD aiming to compete against Nvidia’s entry-level RTX 3000 series cards. For comparison, AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 is priced at $580, and the company positioned its GPU as a direct competitor to rival Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3070. With the Radeon 6700 XT, AMD could be gunning for the same market as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti. The RTX 3060 Ti, for reference, debuted at $399. We can likely expect pricing to be around or under $500 with the latest Radeon RX 6700 XT.
Given the ongoing GPU shortage, it’s likely that the Radeon RX 6700 XT will be subject to the same fate when it debuts.
