Asus announces 4K monitor, SATA Express motherboard at CES 2014

asus announces 4k monitor sata express motherboard ces 2014

This week at CES 2014, Asus announced a bunch of new products, including a hefty 28-inch 4K monitor, along with a motherboard which Asus claims is the first to include support for SATA Express.

Asus’ 4k monitor, dubbed the PB287Q (pictured above), is equipped with a crazy-high resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, which is four times higher than 1080p. There’s more to the PB287Q than ultra high resolution though. Asus claims that its Splended Plus tech, which is embedded within the monitor, decreases eyestrain by minimizing the blue component of light from the monitor’s backlight. Asus also promises to keep images stable and sharp with their Flicker-free tech. Port selection includes HDMI, DisplayPort and more.

Asus describes its Z87-Deluxe/SATA Express motherboard as a “concept,” which most notable includes SATA Express Ports, with Asus claiming that its the first motherboard to do so. SATA Express claims data transfer rates as high as 1GB/s. Asus also revealed a Thunderbolt expansion card dubbed the ThunderboltEX II, which includes a pair of Thunderbolt ports, though its only compatible with certain Asus 8-series motherboards. the ThunderboltEX II/DUAL is also on the way, the main difference being that it features a pair of Thunderbolt connections.

Pricing and release date information for all of the Asus products above are currently unavailable.
