Asus B-series Notebooks Sport Green-Certified Batteries

Asus has announced its new B-series of business-oriented notebooks, and along with Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, the systems include a technology designed to appeal to greener thinking amongst notebook users: they sport Sonata Long Life batteries from Boston-Power, which offer all the performance of standard notebook batteries but three times the lifespan, meaning less replacement of batteries even for the most travel-intensive users.

“Our customers look to ASUS to provide cost effective solutions that include innovative features such as the Sonata Long Life Battery, which offers not only long term dependability but is also environmentally friendly,” said Asus Computer International director of sales Rudy Magna, in a statement.

Asus’s B-series has four models: The B43F, the BC43J, the B53F, and B53J—the B53s are available now, and the the B43s should follow “in the near future.” The B53J features either an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor (running at 2.4 or 2.66 GHz, respectively) and an 15.6-inch 1,366 by 768-pixel LCD display powered by ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 graphics with 512 MB of video memory and ATI Eyefinity technology handle up to two external displays. The systems also feature a 320 GB hard drive, integrated DVD drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel webcam, an integrated fingerprint reader, and Intel VPro technology that lets IT departments manage and maintain the system remotely. The B53F steps down to Intel GMA HD integrated graphics and drops Intel vPro; both ship with Windows 7 Processional 64-bit.

The B43J and B43F will have similar specs in a more-portable form factor, shrinking down to a 14.1-inch display while maintaining the 1,366 by 768-pixel resolution.

The B53s should be available now from retailers with prices starting at $1,099.

Trying to buy a GPU in 2023 almost makes me miss the shortage
Two AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards on a pink surface.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.

In a generation where no single GPU stands out as the single best graphics card, it's hard to jump on board with the latest from AMD and Nvidia. I don't want to see another GPU shortage, but the state of the graphics card market is far from where it should be.
This generation is all over the place

This tiny ThinkPad can’t quite keep up with the MacBook Air M2
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
