Asus Introduces Decked-out Displays

If you find yourself with the desk space for a colossal 24-inch LCD, but somehow have a little trouble finding room for a microphone, webcam, and speakers, Asus has the display for you. The company just unveiled its MK221H and MK241H monitors on Wednesday, both of which roll full multimedia and videoconferencing capability into a display.

The smaller MK221H features a 22-inch display with a 5000:1 contrast radio, 300 nits of brightness, 1680 x 1050 resolution, and 2ms gray-to-gray response time. On top, it’s equipped with a swiveling 1.3-megapixel webcam and microphone array for videoconferencing. Both are plug-and-play devices, eliminating the need for drivers, and the mic array automatically reduced background noise and echos. The monitor also gets dual two-watt stereo speakers.

The larger MK241H gets the same multimedia and videoconferencing gear along with a slighter larger display. Contrast dips to 3000:1 on the bigger monitor, but brightness climbs to 450 nits, and it also boasts 1920 x 1200 resolution. An HDMI connection allows the display be used for full 1080p playback when coupled with HD devices such as the Xbox 360, PlayStation3, and Blu-ray/HD-DVD players.

Asus hasn’t yet released pricing or availability information for either display.

Laptop displays got way better this year, and I can prove it

I've noticed for a couple of years that laptop displays have been improving. And it's not just the advent of new technologies like OLED and mini-LED. I'm talking about the tried-and-true IPS panel, which remains the most prevalent display technology on most laptops we've reviewed.

Fortunately, we maintain a database of quantitative laptop data that can help shed light on the following question: are laptop displays really getting better, or does it just seem to be the case? While the following data isn't scientific, it's close enough for us to draw some conclusions about just how much better laptops have been getting.

Upcoming MacBook Pro could have a 20-inch folding display
A concept visual of a foldable screen MacBook Folio.

We have a report out of the Korean tech news site The Elec that Apple is developing a 20-inch display. For what purpose it is truly unknown, but there's speculation of it being meant for a MacBook or MacBook Pro-like device.

There are no concrete production plans for this project, and could just very well be one of many of Apple's technology or patent exercises. However, insiders are suggesting that the Cupertino, California company plans for 20-inch foldable products to drop sometime between 2026 and 2027. The hardware is being co-developed with a South Korean manufacturer (Samsung or LG perhaps?), with the specs being 20.25 inches with the display fully unfolded.
