CES 2006 Profile: BenQ

Digital devices company BenQ came to CES 2006 last week ready to go with a slew of new products for the coming year. This line up includes three new digital cameras, several HDTV compatible LCD TVs and some extremely fast 19” and 20” LCD monitors.

BenQ’s 2006 digital cameras include the very small six megapixel X600 ($399 – currently available), the five megapixel E521 ($299 – available this month) and the compact eight mexapixel C800 ($229 – available this month). Features of the X600 include a 2.5” color LCD, 30fps of video recording, a smart photo editing function and a thickness of 1.9cm. The E521’s feature set includes 3x optical zoom and a 2” OLED display, while the C800 also offers up 3x optical zoom and a burst mode that enables up to four shots to be taken per snap.

BenQ’s HDTV compatible LCD TVs are a diverse lot this year. At the high end of the line is the new Prestige Line Series 42” PL4271 ($2,999 – available in February). This model offers up features like 16:9 aspect ratio, 8ms response time, 1920 x 1080 native resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and up to 1080i high definition. From the Value Line Series comes the entry level 32” VL3231 ($1,299 – available in March) and 37” VL3731 ($1,799 – available in April). Common features on these two models include a contrast ratio of 800:1, 8ms response time, 16:9 aspect ratio, up to 1080i high definition and a brightness of 500 nits.

On the computer side of LCD monitors, BenQ introduced what they are calling the world’s fastest 19” and 20” displays. The 19” FP93GX ($429 – currently available) has a 2ms gray to gray response time and a 13mm bezel design. Features include traditional D-Sub and next generation DVI input support and a 700:1 contrast ratio. The 20” FP202W meanwhile sports an 8ms response time, 1680 x 1050 resolution, 600:1 contrast ratio and a wide screen design of 43cm in screen width.
