CES 2006 Profiles: APC

American Power Conversion brought several new products to the Consumer Electronics Show last week in Las Vegas. These power related accessories are all geared towards helping users have the best mobile device experience possible.

APC’s first announced product is the Universal Power Adapter. This $99.99 device, which will be available in the first quarter of this year, is a power supply that can run many leading brands of notebook computers by drawing power from any airplane, auto or AC outlet. It comes with a variety of “notebook tips” which connect to the appropriate laptop computer. Other features include a voltage selector switch and the ability to power two other compatible devices via a USB power port and splitter cable.

APC’s new Universal Notebook Battery 65Wh ($149.99 – currently available) can provide up to six hours of battery life to a laptop. It has a voltage selector switch and power remaining LEDs. It can be used for long trips or to charge the existing notebook’s battery.

Rounding out APC’s new product announcements is the Power Port Accessory. An add- on to the Universal Notebook Battery, this $19.99 accessory will be available in the first quarter of this year. It allows consumers to charge devices such as cell phones and MP3 players when AC power is unavailable.

The best laptops of CES 2023: Dell, Asus, Lenovo, and more
The two displays of the Yoga Book 9i on a table.

CES is the biggest laptop show of the year -- and it's not close. Dozens of new laptops get launched and updated, and every major (and minor) laptop manufacturer gets in on the fun.

This year was full of interesting concepts, some that stretch the definition of what laptops even are. I'll save the best gaming laptops of CES 2023 for another list entirely (because there's a lot), but these are the best laptops from CES 2023 outside the gaming space.

Why a gaming keyboard is my most anticipated CES 2023 product
Asus ROG Azoth gaming keyboard.

I won't pretend that gaming keyboards are exciting. We see them year after year with minimal changes, nearly all of which you can see in a product photo. My relationship with gaming keyboards completely changed when I built my own -- suddenly, nothing seemed even close. But Asus is challenging that position.

The ROG Azoth is an unassuming gaming keyboard, but it's a huge deal for the world of custom-built keyboards. Even after seeing AMD's Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Samsung's Odyssey OLED G9, Asus' lowly keyboard is my most anticipated product at CES 2023. Here's why.

The best monitors of CES 2023
The Dell UltraSharp 6K monitor connected to a laptop on a desk.

Although gaming monitors saw more attention this CES, there were still some other excellent monitors showed off on the convention floor. We saw multiple Apple Studio Display competitors, cheaper mini-LED options, and a few unique form factors. Here are the best monitors we've seen at CES 2023.
Samsung ViewFinity 5K

Apple has had a monopoly on high-resolution creator displays, but Samsung is challenging that position with the ViewFinity 5K. It's a direct competitor to Apple's Studio Display, outfitted with a 27-inch screen and 5K resolution that produces a pixel density of 218 pixels per inch (PPI). Samsung has a couple of extra goodies, too. You don't have to spend extra for a matte finish, for example, and although we don't have an official price, it'll probably cost less than Apple's display.
