A second massive Comcast outage leaves customers without service this month

Comcast has been hit with a massive second nationwide outage this month, affecting phones, internet, and video customers. Twitter users reported that Comcast and Xfinity services have been down across the country, and it appears that Comcast is aware of the situation, with the company replying to customer inquiries through social media channels. The outage appears to affect both Comcast business and residential customers. The outage on Friday, June 29, follows an outage from earlier this month that took down Comcast Business Voice and VoiceEdge Select services.

“One of Comcast’s large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers,” Comcast said of the outage through its @ComcastCares Twitter account. “It is currently affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers. We apologize & are working to get services restored as soon as possible.”

Comcast has not given an estimate on when service is expected to be restored at this time. According to service tracker website Down Detector, it appears that most reported incidents come from users in cities across California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Washington have reported outages, with other areas also impacted.

With the outage from earlier this month affecting Comcast Business customers, the company was able to restore service later in the same day.

“We experienced a service interruption today with our Comcast Business Voice and VoiceEdge Select services and we apologize,” Comcast informed Digital Trends about its business outage from earlier this month. “Our engineers began working to address the issue immediately and services have been restored for most of our customers. We recognize that some customers are still impacted and we expect the issue to be fully resolved shortly. We have every resource focused on getting everyone back online and apologize again to the customers who were affected.”

Apart from its recent string of outages this month, Comcast has also been the news for its part in ending its throttling policies and its fight with Disney to acquire 21st Century Fox.
