Dell Rolls Out New Media PCs

Dell added some new computers to their Dimension line up today which they say will offer enhanced multimedia features, run quieter and blend better with home and office environments.

The new 5100c and 5100 offer up a redesigned chassis trimmed in alpine white and arctic silver colors. Both models feature technologies which Dell says help reduce noise and improve cooling.

The 5100c appears in a foot-tall form factor which is powered by Intel’s dual-core processors. It runs off of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and comes with a Media Center Extender, TV tuner and DVD burner. The 5100c can fit in office spaces as wide as a business card or be installed horizontally inside a home entertainment center.

The 5100 also offers support for Windows Media XP Center Edition 2005, but is scaled down in features and more targeted towards students and those seeking a second or third computer.

The 5100c starts at $1,049, while the 5100 is priced at $899. Both systems will be available next month.

Dell G15 rear 3-quarter view.

To wit, Dell has decided to gussy up its popular mid-budget G15 (5530) and G16 (7630) gaming laptop lines with unique colorways, such as metallic nightshade (with a black thermal shelf), dark shadow gray or quantum white (with a deep space blue thermal shelf), or -- my favorite -- pop purple (with a neo mint thermal shelf), among others.

Dell’s new 6K UltraSharp refuses to sacrifice pixel density for size
The Dell UltraSharp 6K monitor connected to a laptop on a desk.

At CES 2023, Dell introduced a new 32-inch monitor that doesn't sacrifice pixel density for size.

As the name implies, the Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor (U3224KB) has a resolution of 6144 x 3456 and a 31.5-inch screen size -- and those aren't just random numbers. That matches the pixel density of sharper, smaller screens, like the one you'll find on a high-end laptop.
