Check out our review of the Dell XPS 13 ultrabook.

Dell’s XPS 13 debuted at last year’s CES and was one of the better premium ultrabooks on the market. However, its display was its one serious flaw. The XPS 13’s resolution of 1366 x 768 was quickly surpassed by a variety of competitors like the HP Spectre and ASUS Zenbook.

The display will be rectified later this month with a minor refresh of the XPS 13 that includes optional 1080p. The upgraded screen is an IPS panel and will provide both better viewing angles and a higher maximum brightness than the standard 1366 x 768 display.

No other major changes have been announced as part of the refresh. Processor options include Intel Core i5 and i7 processors with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics. A 128GB solid-state drive is standard and can be upgraded to a 256GB model. One option that’s still missing is touch, but Dell offers the convertible XPS 12, which is similarly priced.

Pricing for the upgraded display is not yet announced. We expect it to fall between $150 and $200 on top of the starting price. Consumers will be able to grab the display upgrade in late January.

Dell is the brand I tend to recommend to friends and family when they need a dependable laptop. Fortunately, the company often has some great laptop deals, and that’s the case today with $500 off the Dell XPS 14. Usually $1,500, it’s down to $1,000, so you’re saving a considerable chunk of change here. It’s the latest model with the style that we describe as a “momentous design,” so you’ll be delighted with how it looks. Here’s everything else you need to know about it.

Why you should buy the Dell XPS 14
We reviewed a similar model of the Dell XPS 14 earlier this year and we were fairly impressed, giving it 3.5 stars out of 5. Crucially, the particular model we looked at felt expensive for what it offered -- something you won’t have to worry about here. The only pivotal issues that align here are that the touch buttons lack haptic feedback, there are limited ports, and the RAM isn’t upgradeable. Buy a USB mouse and don’t plan on upgrading and you’re all good.

Dell has a hefty discount on a highly popular and powerful laptop right now. Right now you can buy the Dell XPS 16 for $1,900 instead of $2,600. A $700 discount isn’t a common thing to see on the latest model of anything, making this one of the best laptop deals around right now. Packed with great hardware, here’s what it has to offer so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Why you should buy the Dell XPS 16
We called the Dell XPS 16 a “problematic powerhouse” in our review, which sounds worrying, but much of that comes down to its usually expensive price tag. While on sale, it’s a much more attractive proposition with its ultramodern aesthetic, good keyboard and haptic touchpad -- and of course its strong performance.
