Don’t Like Windows 7? Downgrade To Vista…Or XP

Don

Microsoft has said that customers who buy new computers which have Windows 7 pre-installed will be able to downgrade to the Vista OS if they like – or even XP.

That all comes because of the license, which will apply both to businesses and individual consumers, the BBC reports. Although downgrade rights are common in Microsoft licenses, the inclusion of XP is a surprise, given that the company is withdrawing free mainstream support for the OS as of the 14th of this month. It’s already been given two reprieves and has proved exceptionally popular on netbooks.

The general consensus is that Vista hasn’t been a hit with the public, although Microsoft disputes that theory. The company has said that the release candidate of Windows 7 will appear in late May, and although no date has been given for a final version of Windows 7, it’s expected next January.

Nvidia RTX 4070 vs. RTX 4070 Ti: don’t buy the wrong GPU
Nvidia's RTX 4070 graphics cards over a pink background.

Nvidia's new RTX 4070 finally brings down the prices of the company's Ada Lovelace generation, but it also introduces a decades-old dilemma for gamers on the hunt for the best graphics card: is it worth it to spend more for extra performance?

The go-to alternative is the RTX 4070 Ti, which sits on the edge of Nvidia's midrange and high-end lineups. It's clearly the more powerful graphics card, as you can read in my RTX 4070 Ti review. Despite that, I'd still recommend most shoppers stick with the RTX 4070. Here's why.

Nvidia finally made a tiny RTX 4000 graphics card (but you probably don’t want it)
RTX 4000 SFF going into a PC case.

After months of massive graphics cards like the RTX 4090, Nvidia is finally slimming things down at its GPU Technology Conference (GTC). The RTX 4000 SFF delivers the Ada Lovelace architecture in a tiny package, but you probably won't find it sitting among the best graphics cards.

Although the RTX 4000 SFF uses the same architecture in gaming GPUs like the RTX 4080, it's built for a very different purpose. It uses Nvidia enterprise drivers, and it's made to power computer-aided design (CAD), graphics design, AI applications, and software development, according to Nvidia. The card takes up two slots and includes a low-profile bracket for cases like the Hyte Y40.

A woman using a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop.

Dell just launched a new Inspiron 14 laptop with a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, and it's priced like a Chromebook, costing only $500. The advantage of using a Qualcomm chip is the long battery life, and Dell claims the Inspiron 14 can last for 16 hours on a single charge.

The budget laptop includes a respectable 8GB of memory and 256GB of SSD storage, which should be sufficient for productivity and browsing. A 14-inch antiglare screen has an LED backlight and offers 1080p resolution.
