Gigabyte to Produce Low-Cost Notebook

It seems you’re just not a legitimate manufacturer in Taiwan these days unless you’ve got plans to produce a low-cost notebook in the same league as the Asus EEE. Well, here comes another one. Gigabyte Technologies became the latest company to throw its name in the hat on Thursday, when vice president Richard Ma revealed his company’s plans to Digitimes.

According to Ma, Gigabyte’s new low-cost notebook will ride on Intel’s new Shelton’08 platform. According to a seperate Digitimes article, Shelton will offer a 1.6 GHz processor and total power consumption of eight watts, putting expected runtime in the three to four hour range. Screen size, like all models in the low-cost PC sector, will be between seven and inches. Although Ma did not indicate a timeframe for the notebook’s arrival, the Shelton platform is expected to debut in the third quarter of 2008. No price was predicted.

Besides the low-cost notebook, Ma also mentioned that Gigabyte has plans for an Internet device based on Intel’s Menlow platform, as well as an ultra-mobile PC.

Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4080 is its second-most-powerful graphics card, and that high performance comes at a cost that gamers feel is too high, according to a recent survey. Priced at $1,200, it supports DirectX 12 Ultimate capability, exceeding the blazing performance of the previous generation's best, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

Despite the amazing graphics performance of the GPU and its 16GB of memory, most gamers in a recent survey felt it was overpriced. This demonstrates how much we've come to assume that technology will continue to get faster without any significant increase in cost. That is partially true since manufacturing advances and ongoing miniaturization help, but there are other factors that can affect pricing, such as the after-effects of the global pandemic.

Hackers sink to new low by stealing Discord accounts in ransomware attacks

As if ransomware wasn’t terrifying enough already, hackers are now trying to hold your Discord account hostage, as well as your files. Thankfully, you can grab your Discord back if you act quickly enough.
This new ransomware campaign was recently discovered by leading cybersecurity firm Cyble, and it’s a particularly nasty one. A wave of similar attacks is emerging, including AXLocker, Octocrypt, and Alice. Ransomware encrypts files on the infected computer before demanding that you pay to decrypt your files to regain access.

Something uniquely cruel about AXLocker is that it also copies your Discord token and sends it to the hacker's server, giving them an opportunity to access and steal your Discord account. The malware is sneaky and leaves file names and extensions intact as it encrypts files so you might not notice anything is wrong until you see the ransom note.
