A significant update for the desktop version of Google Maps should roll out “over the coming weeks,” if an official Google blog post is any indication.

When the new update hits, you’ll be able to see your search results directly on the map itself, along with other suggested places. Street View previews of the places you’re looking up will also be made available, as well as real time traffic data. 3D images will also be easier to access when using the desktop version of Google Maps, via an image carousel at the bottom of the screen. This version of Google Maps was first previewed at last year’s developer-focused Google I/O conference, which took place in May.

Though the new version of Google Maps can currently be accessed by hitting up www.google.com/maps/preview, it has been available as an option. Once the update rolls out, the new Maps will be what you’ll be using by default.

Brian McClendon, VP of Google Maps, had this to say about the Google Maps for desktop computers update:

“With any product redesign, there may be bumps along the road. We’re hoping that you’re as excited as we are to navigate uncharted territory in pursuit of the perfect map. As always, we want to hear what you think as we work to improve the new Maps over time.”

You can provide Google with your Maps feedback by clicking here and following the on-screen instructions.

Google Chrome is one of the best browsers around, but it's always had a big problem with memory usage. It's finally addressing the issue in a new Chrome 110 update that promises to reduce RAM usage by up to 30% and make the browser for efficient.

Chrome has a reputation for its speed, security, and feature drops, as well as a penchant for hanging on to your precious RAM like an episode of Hoarders. Granted, Google has made strides in improving Chrome's memory efficiency by hibernating tabs in the background, but it still struggles with it compared to Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox.
