Google’s Chrome Continues to Gain Market Share

Google continues its march towards total world domination. With the recent Google tech news focusing on Android advancements and apps, Google’s Web browser Chrome has quietly begun to eat up market share at a rapid pace.

According to a new report from NetApplications, Chrome showed the most growth of any Web browser last month. Chrome continues to beat Firefox and Opera, and it pulled Microsoft’s IE 8 below 60 percent of the market. Although still at a low 6.73 percent of the market – an increase from 6.1 percent the month before – Chrome is gaining more shares than anyone else.

With IE9 due out sometime soon (we hope), Google is taking full advantage of the lull between versions to secure its position in the Web browser market. Mozilla’s Firefox is currently in second place with 24.59 percent, but it has yet to pass the 25 percent mark, something that most considered a given.

Safari also saw a minor rise from 4.65 percent to 4.72 percent in April. IE8 fell from 60.65 percent to 59.95 percent. Since its peak in 2003 when IE held 93 percent of the market, the Microsoft browser has been in a steady decline, but continues to dominate the market.
