HP announces 14-inch Pavilion 14 Chromebook, largest Chromebook yet

hp-chromebook01Check out our review of the HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook laptop review.

Previous reports about HP coming up with its own Chromebook have proven correct now that the company has finally revealed the Pavilion 14 Chromebook. HP is the latest in a series of companies, including Samsung, Acer, and Lenovo, that are manufacturing hardware that supports Google’s Chrome OS.

The Pavilion 14 comes with typical Chromebook specs. It runs on a 1.1GHz Intel Celeron processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 16GB solid-state drive. Unlike the other Chromebooks, though, it has a 14-inch 1,366 x 768 pixel screen instead of the usual 11- or 12-inch display, so it also weighs considerably more at 4 pounds. It also has a relatively generous number of ports comprised of three USB 2.0, an Ethernet port, and an SD card slot. HP touts it as a device that “gives you fast and easy access to the things you love and depend on, from a world of Google apps and services to your photos and social networks.”

The downside is its price. At $330, the Pavilion 14 costs a lot more than other Chromebooks on the market – much more than the Samsung Series 3 priced at $250, or the Intel-version of Acer’s C7 that costs only $199. Also, it has a rated battery life of 4 hours and 15 minutes, which can’t compare to the more than 7 hours we squeezed out of the Samsung Series 3 Chromebook when we tested it for review

The HP 14 Chromebook (14a-ne0013dx).

Sometimes, a computer just needs to do the bare minimum. We’re talking web browsing, some light photo editing, maybe a little gaming, and the occasional streamed movie or show. And while there are premium PCs that can handle all those tasks and so much more, this week, we found the end-all-be-all Chromebook offer that checks all those bare minimum boxes:

We’re talking about the HP 14 Chromebook, which is currently on sale at Best Buy for only $159. At full price, this model sells for $300. Sure, it may not be ultra-powerful, but who needs a V8 engine when you can run all your local errands with a Corolla or a Civic?

HP just unveiled three new laptops during its yearly HP Imagine event, and if you use your laptop for work, there's plenty to be interested in. The most eye-catching offering of the trio is the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip, which is a 2-in-1 laptop with a 3K OLED touchscreen. There are two more laptops for professionals, and HP ticks the box for Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD enthusiasts, as the three laptops come with different CPUs.

Let's start with the OmniBook Ultra Flip. This is a 14-inch convertible laptop that comes equipped with Intel's latest Lunar Lake processors, offering up to the Core 9 Ultra 288V with eight cores and eight threads and a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz. The lowest variant sports the Ultra 5 226V, which also has eight cores and eight threads, but it only boosts up to 4.5GHz. All variants come with integrated Intel Arc graphics, and while the top two chips get the 16GB version, the less premium offerings come with the 8GB version.
