In recent years, Iomega has been trying to make design statements with its hard drive enclosures: whether they call attention to themselves with bold colors or try to match the aesthetic of other products, the drives (usually) try their best to make a statement. Now, Iomega is offering a drive that might vanish entirely. The company has introduced a new version of its 250 GB eGo USB 2.0 portable hard drive—with a new camouflage pattern and black “Power Grip” band that helps users keep ahold of the drive and provides some protection for the case.
“With the new eGo Camo Portable Hard Drive, Iomega adds a style of adventure and intrigue to the eGo color kaleidoscope,” said Iomega’s global manager for hard disk products Ralf San Jose, in a statement. “No self-respecting ‘camo’ lover will be without it.”
The drive sports a USB 2.0 interface and powers right off the USB bus—no separate AC adapter required. The drive offers 250 MB of storage capacity and ships with EMC Retrospect backup and recovery software for WIndows; the drive is also compatible with Mac OS X 10.1 or newer. The drive also offers Iomega’s DropGuard protection that should shield the device from falls of up to 60 inches with the new PowerGrip band.
The 250 GB camo-patterned drive is available at a suggested retail price of $149.95.
