Is Android Coming To Netbooks?

It might still only be available on one phone – the T-Mobile G1 – but Google’s Android OS is starting to make waves in the netbook world.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, HP is considering using Android, and is testing it on a new line of netbooks, although it’s not yet known if they’ll ever be commercially available. HP’s PC division vice president Satjiv Chachil said:

It's not often that Intel releases an unscheduled patch that applies to nearly every modern processor. But that's exactly what's happening this Friday.

As spotted by PCWorld, chips ranging from 2017 to the present 13th generation are listed in the code for the patch, which was posted on the Intel GitHub page. In other words, if you own a relatively new PC powered by Intel, the company thinks you need your system patched.

Asus has finally given its hotly anticipated ROG Ally a price and release date (you can read my full thoughts on the device in our Asus ROG Ally review). The flagship model, the one I reviewed, arrives on June 13 for $700. But a cheaper model is on the way for only $600 later in the year.
