Kingston Introduces Secure USB Flash Drive

Kingston Technology yesterday introduced what they are calling the world’s first secure USB flash drive targeted towards enterprise uses. The new DataTraveler Elite – Privacy Edition is available in storage capacities of 256MB ($48), 512MB ($75), 1GB ($119), 2GB ($222) and 4GB ($347).

The DataTraveler Elite – Privacy Edition, said Kingston, secures data via 128-bit hardware-based AES encryption as well as a complex password protocol and a mechanism which blocks access after 25 consecutive failed password attempts. Other features of this USB drive, which runs on Windows based computers, include physical measurements of 2.67” x 0.829” x 0.355” and a data transfer rate of up to 24MB per second read and up to 14MB/sec write.

“Securing mobile data is one of the key challenges IT professionals face today,” said Mark Leathem, director, flash business development, Kingston, in a statement. “Many organizations have hundreds of megabytes of critical information stored on personal drives that are potentially at risk to loss or theft. With DTE Privacy Edition, enterprises can support their increasingly mobile workforces with an enterprise-grade storage solution, and have peace of mind that sensitive information is secure.”

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.
