Lenovo Chases Green Ratings with M57 "Eco"

Though best known for its ThinkPad notebooks, Lenovo produces lesser-known ThinkCentre desktops as well, and expanded that line today with the release of the M57 “Eco.”The company bills the Intel-based small-form-factor PC it as its “most environmentally friendly desktop to date.”

Besides setting records among Lenovo computers, the M57 also became the first desktop PC ever to receive the Greenguard Institute’s Greenguard certification, which guarantees it to be free of over 2,000 chemical emissions. It also earned the more commonplace EPEAT Gold and Energy Star 4.0 ratings.

The new models come in two variants, the M57 and faster M57p. Both can be optioned with up to 8GB of total memory, 500GB hard drives, and processors from Intel’s Celeron, Pentium Dual-Core, and Core 2 Duo lines, along with either integrated Intel GMA3100 graphics or the Intel X3100 accelerator.

To coincide with the launch of its latest small-form-factor PCs, Lenovo also unveiled its new ThinkCentre Vertical PC and Monitor Stand, which allows the monitor and desktop to lift off the desk for more workspace.

Both the M57 and M57p are on sale immediately, with prices starting at $699 for the M57.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
