Lunar Eclipse Video Hides Malware

Lunar Eclipse Video Hides MalwareDid you see the lunar eclipse on Wednesday night? If you didn’t or couldn’t, perhaps the idea of having it on video sounds tempting? That certainly seems to be what hackers are hoping.  Since yesterday spam e-mails have been flying around offering video of the event, according to security company Websense. Vnunet reports that the e-mails have headers like:   ‘Total Moon Eclipse Video on NASA TV’
‘Moon Eclipse is visible today’ ‘Lunar Eclipse Video, Your guide to the total lunar eclipse’
‘Shocking video with Total moon eclipse’   The problem is that the download is really a Trojan that gives administrative control of your PC to a hacker. You might do better instead to wait forthe next lunar eclipse. After all, it’s only in December 2010.

An Illustration shows a programmer busy with a laptop and several monitors.

The FBI says it has disrupted a long-running malware operation that allowed Russian spies to steal sensitive information from numerous countries, including NASA-member governments, prominent journalists, and other targets deemed to be of interest to the Russian government.

The court-authorized operation, codenamed MEDUSA, disrupted a global peer-to-peer network of computers compromised by sophisticated malware called “Snake,” described by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) as the "premier cyberespionage malware" of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). Officials said the malware was knocked offline at the start of this week.

These are the 10 most-viewed YouTube videos of all time
The red and white YouTube logo on a phone screen. The phone is on a white background.

Being popular is about the only thing the current most-viewed YouTube videos have in common with their top-performing predecessors. Even though YouTube videos like Chocolate Rain went viral during the first few years of YouTube's content, they probably wouldn't be among the kinds of videos that go viral on the platform now.

In fact, children's programming and music videos are now among the most-viewed content on YouTube. Music videos, in particular, have enjoyed great success on the streaming site and, until recently, had been the majority of the most-viewed videos in YouTube's history. Music videos still account for 40% of the top 10 most-viewed videos, however. The other 60% is content for young children. If these view counts are anything to go by, the video-sharing site could be considered a leading platform for music videos and kid-friendly content, rather than just the memeworthy viral videos the site was known for in its early days.
What is the most-viewed YouTube video of all time?
Baby Shark Dance is the most-viewed video ever on YouTube. The children's song overtook the all-Spanish version of Despacito in November 2020.
