A report indicates that Microsoft is sending out invites for an event that it is holding on September 30.

Though the event invite itself doesn’t make any references (obvious or vague) to Windows 9 from what we’ve seen, Microsoft is widely expected to give the world its first official look at the company’s next desktop operating system.

To this point, numerous leaks from German tech blog Winfuture.de give us some very clear looks at what Microsoft may have in store.

Screenshots and videos of a technical preview version of Windows 9 currently indicate that Microsoft’s next desktop OS could come with the ability to run multiple desktops at once, a notifications center, a version of the Cortana voice assistant, the return of the beloved Start menu (with a Metro UI-ish twist), and much more.

Though Microsoft may very well lift the curtain on Windows 9 just a couple of weeks from now, the OS may not be released until sometime next year. Virtually all of the Windows 9 release date rumors to this point have pegged a launch sometime in the Spring of 2015, with the possible release of a public beta either late this month, or early next month.
