Microsoft Not Worried By Vista SP1 Issues Microsoft will be releasing the long-awaited Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) later this month. We know this. We also know that SP1 has seriouscompatibility issues with some third-party programs. But, according to ZDNet, the software giant isn’t too worried by the issue. Kevin Turner,Microsoft’s third-highest exec, told the news site, "We’ve had several million downloads of SP1. We’re very excited about it. It still hasn’t been officially released, but we’reexcited about it." SP1 is currently available to those who subscribe to the Microsoft Developer Network. In addition to the list of programs that won’t work with a service-packed Vista, there have been reports that some users claim that adding the update has affected thefunctionality of their computers.

Apple’s M1 chip has revitalized its Mac lineup, but a developer has discovered a flaw they say is “baked into Apple Silicon chips, and cannot be fixed without a new silicon revision.” There is probably no need to worry, though, as the same researcher says the impact of this flaw is negligible.

The exploit allows two apps to pass data between them without the use of files, memory, or any of the other regular ways data is exchanged in an operating system, says Hector Martin, the developer who found the flaw. It can even pass things between users and across privilege levels.

Microsoft goes all-in on Windows 10 on ARM, with its target set on the M1 Macs

Just as Apple did almost a year ago with the ARM-based M1 chip, Microsoft is getting ready to finally dive into ARM-based architecture. Today, at its annual Build Developer conference, the company detailed new ways for developers to port their apps to ARM-based PCs like the Surface Pro X.

The forefront of those plans is a new Snapdragon Developer Kit. Microsoft says that this kit is an affordable Windows on ARM-based PC that is specially designed for developers. The kit will be available for purchase at the Microsoft Store this summer as part of a partnership between Microsoft and Qualcomm Technologies. Microsoft didn't share specific pricing or availability, but notes it will be "cost-effective."

Microsoft confirms Windows 10 21H1, its first major update for this year

Just one day after rumors indicated a potential announcement, Microsoft has officially revealed the first major update to Windows 10 for this year. Appropriately named Windows 10 21H1, the update is now available for "seekers" in early preview testing in the Beta branch of the Windows Insider program. For everyone else who isn't a beta tester, Microsoft is targeting a May 2021 rollout via Windows Update.

"We are introducing the next feature update to Windows 10, version 21H1. As people continue to rely on Windows more than ever to work, learn, and have fun, we understand the importance of providing the best possible update experience to help people and organizations stay protected and productive. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly," said Microsoft.
