Microsoft sees India as a major market. To that end it’s teamed with that country’s HCL Infosystems tocreate the world’s cheapest Windows latop. The MiLeap H series has a 30 GB hard drive, is broadband ready, runs Windows XP Home and costs 17,000 rupees – right around $425. As thecomputer was launched in Mumbai, Microsoft’s COO, Kevin Turner, said it will "empower Indian consumers and businesses with the latest and best that technology has to offer." Although low-cost PCs have seen a lot of growth, especially in the laptop area, Microsoft has been lagging in the market. This should give it a push, especially as the company has announced that itwill keep its XP OS alive for low-cost systems.
