Microsoft Warns of Word Vulnerability

According to a new security advisory – 953635, actually – Microsoft is investigating reports of a possibly vulnerability in Microsoft Office Word 2002 Service Pack 3.

The advisory reads:

"Microsoft is investigating the public reports and customer impact. Upon completion of this investigation, Microsoft will take the appropriate action to help protect our customers. This may include providing a security update through our monthly release process or providing an out-of-cycle security update, depending on customer needs."

Until its investigation is complete, the company is advising the use of Microsoft Office Word 2003 Viewer or Microsoft Office Word 2003 Viewer Service Pack 3 when accessing Microsoft Word files.

If anyone believes they’ve been subject to an attack, Microsoft is urging them to contact law enforcement authorities.
