More American Women Than Men Go Online

“More women than men surf the Net.

That’s a conclusion of online marketing firm eMarketer Inc., which issued study results Thursday saying that girls and women represented 51.6% of Americans online last year. While females make up about 51% of the U.S. population, and that ratio is expected to hold in the coming years, the proportion of girls and women on the Web should grow to 52.6% by 2008, according to eMarketer.

That’s a big change from the early days of the Internet, when males dominated. As recent as 1997, boys and men made up three-quarters of Internet users. “

ChatGPT is back online after being down for more than 3 hours

ChatGPT is back offline after being down for over three hours. OpenAI has restored service for free and paying users, but it's continuing to monitor the service as it comes back online. That might mean you'll see more "at capacity" messages than normal

The outage only impacted ChatGPT itself. OpenAI's API and other research websites stayed live, powering ChatGPT alternatives and services like Microsoft's Bing Chate. In addition, OpenAI's other models, such as DALL-E 2, stayed online, as well.

I streamlined my PC VR setup, and now I use it more than ever

One of the biggest hurdles of using VR regularly is the setup time. Every time I wanted to use my VR headset, I would have to go through some infuriating setup steps, which included clearing playing space in my office, covering the glass cabinet to avoid Lighthouse tracker reflections, starting up SteamVR, and running any necessary updates for the game I wanted to play. Of course, when I was finished, I had to put it all away again. It became a chore, and resulted in me diving into the virtual worlds of SteamVR less than I wanted.

In an effort to change that, I went on a campaign of streamlining my VR setup to make it easier to get into and faster to get out of. The idea was to make virtual reality as easy to use as flopping down in my gaming chair for standard desktop gaming. After a few weeks of upgrades and adjustments, I'm happy to report that I've almost managed it.

At the Lenovo Tech World '22 event held October 18, Lenovo teased a new ThinkPad laptop concept with a vertically expanding screen, an idea that could literally change the way we see and use our laptops in the future.

Expanding on its ThinkPad X1 Fold range of folding PCs, Lenovo shared a ThinkPad concept that rolls its screen from 12 inches to 16 inches vertically. The objective and technology behind it is very similar to foldable smartphones that are all the rage these days, allowing the user to change the form factor of the display based on their needs, while the content on the display dynamically adjusts along with it.
