NVIDIA Goes AGP With GeForce 7800

NVIDIA today announced they were bringing their GeForce 7800 GS graphic processing unit to AGP-based systems. The first AGP graphics cards based on this GPU, from manufacturers such as Asus, Gainward and PNY Technologies, will be available in retail outlets beginning Feb. 5.

The new GeForce 7800 GS AGP GPU, said NVIDIA, will offer a host of features including support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 and high dynamic rendering in order to deliver better realistic quality to games, an optimized architecture for Microsoft Windows Vista to better support its 3D graphical user interface and video processor and software technology to deliver high quality video playback.

“GeForce 7800 GPUs are widely considered the pinnacle of graphics performance for PC gaming enthusiasts, and today’s product introduction will allow a lot of extremely powerful AGP systems to benefit from upgrading to the GeForce 7 Series architecture,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager of desktop GPUs at NVIDIA, in a statement. “PC gaming enthusiasts with tricked-out AGP systems have a lot invested in their computers so the new GeForce 7800 GS AGP GPU will allow them to extend the life of their systems, and keep their PCs on the bleeding edge.”
