Look at all the things Origin can cram into its latest Chronos SFF mini desktop

It’s all about being compact and efficient. Gaming laptops are all fine and dandy, but if you’re looking to customize your setup with screen orientation, customize the hardware, or get a custom keyboard you’ll end up with a lot of obsolete hardware. So you look for an alternative, you explore the vast PC market but realize you don’t want to carry an elephant around. Perhaps then, you’ve already made yourself acquainted with Origin’s small form factor Chronos desktops — or maybe you haven’t, but they’re well-known for unconventional desktop designs. And the company has made an addition to their small-form-factor lineup today, shake hands with Origin’s Chronos SFF.

The case to this setup is just under a foot tall in a vertical position but comes with four detachable magnetic feet to keep the rest of the hardware safe above your desk (soda spillage is still a thing). As obvious as it may be, the default operating system is Windows 10. And as you might have guessed from the introduction, despite its miniscule size this thing can still pack a punch. In case you want to display that power without opening up the computer, Origin’s illuminated logo on the front rotates. Because nothing says power like illuminated and rotating logos.

So what will you be bragging about? For starters, this desktop supports all Mini ITX motherboard platforms, processors available are either the Intel Core i7 5960X or a Xeon processor. To make things cooler, the desktop comes with Origin’s own sealed liquid-cooling. And that might be needed as you can go as for as an Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan Z graphics card, whether you do or don’t want the GPU or CPU overclocked on delivery or not is up to you. Should you need more RAM to help your computer keep track of all you’re trying to do, there’s room for up to 32GB DDR4 RAM.

Storage doesn’t seem to be hurt by the size either. Buyers will be able to choose one hard disk drive (HDD) and up to four solid state disks (SSD:s). As always, for any enthusiast the SSD should be a default choice to keep things running smoothly. If you want to take a better look at how it all fits together, there’s a video of the whole thing below.

Trying to buy a GPU in 2023 almost makes me miss the shortage
Two AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards on a pink surface.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.

In a generation where no single GPU stands out as the single best graphics card, it's hard to jump on board with the latest from AMD and Nvidia. I don't want to see another GPU shortage, but the state of the graphics card market is far from where it should be.
This generation is all over the place

This tiny ThinkPad can’t quite keep up with the MacBook Air M2
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
