Premera Blue Cross is the latest health insurer to fall victim to a cyberattack

exploit
Another day, another hack attack. One of the most recent victims is Premera Blue Cross, a Pacific Northwest health insurer that revealed it was the victim of a cyberattack, reports ABC News.

According to the report, as many as 11 million people could be affected by the cyberattack, which could have exposed everything from Social Security numbers and bank account information, to mailing and email addresses. Premera said hackers gained access to its systems on May 5 of last year, adding that it did not discover the breach until January 29 of this year.

The compromised information dates as far back as 2002 and affects users of Premera Blue Cross, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, and Vivacity and Connection Insurance Solutions. Premera offers health, life, vision, dental, disability, and other insurance, and serves 1.8 million members.

Premera said it did not find evidence of data removed from its systems, or that any customer information has been inappropriately used. Even so, it’s offering affected consumers two years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection, free of charge.

Premera did not reveal how well-secured customer information was, or how hackers accessed its systems. However, it did say the breach is currently under investigation. The FBI and cybersecurity firm Mandiant are working with Premera to find out the source of the attack, while also making some repairs to its systems.

Unfortunately, Premera is not the only health insurer to fall victim to a cyberattack. Anthem revealed in February that it, too, was the victim of a hack attack. As many as 80 million former and current Anthem customers were affected by the attack and were also offered free identity theft protection.

Trying to buy a GPU in 2023 almost makes me miss the shortage
Two AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards on a pink surface.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.

In a generation where no single GPU stands out as the single best graphics card, it's hard to jump on board with the latest from AMD and Nvidia. I don't want to see another GPU shortage, but the state of the graphics card market is far from where it should be.
This generation is all over the place

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
