Mobile thin client solutions company Route1 yesterday announced a USB thin client which is designed for secure remote computing. The MobiKey is scheduled to be available before year’s end with a price of $399.
The MobiKey, Route1 said, works by plugging into a USB 2.0 port on a Windows based machine which has a live Internet connection. Once connected, the MobiKey auto-runs from on-board read-only memory and its SIM Smart Card to authenticate users via Route1’s online MobiNET service (monthly cost of $20). This allows users at remote computers to connect to their home or office computer. Once done working, the MobiKey is disconnected and leaves no traces of the user’s work on the host computer.
“More than 70 per cent of North America’s workforce is either remote or mobile,” said Andrew White, Route1 CEO, in a statement. “For most of them, work is no longer a place but simply what they do. MobiKEY is an ideal solution for those who regularly need to use their office applications and data while visiting customers and working from home or remote office.”
