Samsung Story Station Plus Hard Drive Adds eSATA

South Korean electronics giant Samsung has rolled out a new line of Story Station Plus 3.5-inch external hard drives, improving on its earlier Story Station models by bumping capacities up to 2 TB and adding an eSATA interface for speedy data transfer. The eSATA interface enables transfers at rates up to 3 Gb/s; there’s also a USB 2.0 interface for hooking up to machines without an eSATA port.

“Samsung new line of high-density solutions with the eSATA interface give users the speed they need for demanding tasks like photo and video editing, plus safely storing multimedia content libraries,” said Samsung Electronics’ VP of storage marketing H.S. Lee, in a statement.

The drives are available in either 1 or 2 TB capacities, and feature a power-saving design that lets the drives drop down to just 0.1 watts of power consumption in standby mode—although the drives are still power-friendly when operating, eating just 2.5 watts. The drives also include Windows-only Samsung Auto Backup, SecretZone (for encrypting private data), and SafetyKey for password protection.

The Story Station Plus drives should be available this month; suggested retail pricing for the 2 TB version is $299.
