Samsung unveils redesigned 13- and 15-inch Series 9 laptops, 27-inch Series 9 monitor

series 9 monitorDuring its big CES 2012 press conference today, Samsung unveiled its entries into the ultrabook market with the redesigned Series 9 notebooks, which will come in both 13- and 15-inch models, and are redesigned from last year’s Series 9 laptops. The company also announced the release of a new Series 9 monitor.

The 13-inch Series 9 laptop follows in the path of all the other similar releases from other companies this year, with a thin (0.5-inch) and light (under two pounds). And the 15-inch version (which is slightly thicker and just over three pounds in weight) sports a super-thin bezel, which allows the 15-inch screen to fit in the body of a 14-inch notebook.

Both versions feature 1600×900 resolution screens with SuperBright Plus technology, and wide-angle viewing. And both models pack 128GB SSD storage, an Intel Core i5 2467M processor, and come loaded with a backlit keyboard.

The new Series 9 also sport what Samsung calls “Fast Solutions” technology, which enables the notebooks to boot up from off in 9.8 seconds, and wake up in just 1.4 seconds. The 15-inch version has an advertised battery life of up to 10 hours, while the maximum run-time for the 13-inch is about seven hours.

The new Series 9 laptops are packed into a single-shell body, which has been sand blasted, making it finger print-resistant. Both models come in either “Mineral Ash Black” or natural aluminum colors.

Samsung plans to release the new Series 9 notebooks on February 27. The 13-inch will put you out $1,400, and the 15-inch will cost $1,500.

Featuring anti-glare edge-to-edge glass, the new 27-inch Series 9 monitor is advertised as having some of the best color reproduction on the market, thanks to Samsung’s Natural Color Expert technology, which is capable of displaying more than 1 billion colors. The screen sports a 2560×1440 resolution, and is said to have ultra-wide viewing angles, making it possible to see an un-altered image, even when standing far to the side of the screen.

The Series 9 monitor sits on a thin aluminum stand, which houses all the monitor’s inputs, including a USB hub, DisplayPort, Dual-Link DVI and HDMI video ports. Other features include 7-watt stereo speakers, and Mobile High Definition Link (MHL), which allows users to connect their MHL-enabled Android phones directly to the monitor.

The Series 9 monitor will launch in March; no price has yet been announced.

We’ll be getting up close and personal with all of these new Samsung goodies later this week, so check back with Digital Trends for more up-to-the-minute CES 2012 coverage.
