SIMtone Introduces $99 Universal Cloud Terminal at CES

SIMtone Corp. today announced its second generation of SIMtone “SNAP” Universal Cloud Terminals at CES. SIMtone says the new devices deliver fast, powerful “on-demand” access to applications and media services hosted on Windows, Linux or Media Virtual PCs. The SNAP Two desktop/set-top is $99 and supports 1024 x 800 VGA or 640 x 480 TV output and includes 10/100Ethernet connectivity, built-in WiFi, two USB 2.0 ports, a remote control and requires four watts of power to operate.

SIMtone is also offering a new wireless netbook terminal that will be available for $149. SIMtone says the SNAPbook Two is a full-featured netbook device with a 7-inch TFT LCD true color 800 x 480 display, 10/100 Ethernet connectivity, built-in WiFi, three USB 2.0 ports, an 80-key standard keyboard, capacitive TouchPad, speakers, and TV-out capability. It weighs only 740 grams (1.63 pounds) and requires only five watts of power to operate.

“The new SIMtone products set a new price and performance standard that is uniquely positioned to take advantage of these growing trends, says SIMtone CEO, Mario Dal Canto. “We just broke a barrier that will allow billions of people to afford and use Cloud services.”

Both the SNAP Two desktop/set-top terminal and the SNAPbook Two Wireless netbook terminal will be available from SIMtone carriers starting in Q1, 2010.

Nvidia’s rebranded RTX 4070 Ti surfaces at CES 2023

Nvidia's controversial RTX 4070 Ti is real, and the company announced the card would arrive on January 5 in its CES 2023 keynote -- just a couple of days after the announcement. Why the accelerated timeline? There's a good chance Nvidia has had the RTX 4070 Ti in the incubator for a while.

In October 2022, Nvidia took a radical step by "unlaunching" its 12GB RTX 4080. This GPU was announced alongside the 16GB RTX 4080 and RTX 4090, and many people accused Nvidia of giving a lower-class GPU a name upgrade to justify a higher price. The specs of the RTX 4070 Ti show it's a rebranded RTX 4080 12GB, as rumors suggested.

Samsung’s CES 2023 gaming monitors range from curved QD-OLEDs to 8K behemoths

Samsung is convinced you need a bigger gaming monitor -- or at least, that's what its CES 2023 lineup suggests. The company introduced four new monitors to its Odyssey gaming line, ranging from a 34-inch ultrawide monitor up to its 8K 57-inch monster.

It's an interesting move considering CES is also bringing the first 27-inch OLED monitors from LG that have been the talk of tech for the past couple of months. But for now, Samsung has just two Odyssey OLED monitors it's introducing: a 34-inch model and a 49-inch model.

MSI might have the ultimate mini-LED laptop display at CES 2023

MSI is taking laptop displays to a new level at CES 2023, and it might have the sector cornered for a while. Ahead of CES, MSI announced the updated Titan GT77 HX which comes with the first mini-LED 4K 144Hz display in a laptop, and it boasts some insane specs.

If a 4K mini-LED laptop display at 144Hz isn't enough, the screen also comes with VESA's DisplayHDR 1,000 certification. That means it can reach 1,000 nits of peak brightness. MSI also says it comes with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, which is on the level of screens like the Alienware 34 QD-OLED, and in a laptop at that.
