64-Bit Photoshop Coming, for Windows Only

64-Bit Photoshop Coming, for Windows Only

Sorry Mac guys: OS X may be the operating system of choice for image editing professionals, but when the next version of Adobe Photoshop rolls out, it’s Windows users who will have the edge in performance. On Wednesday, Adobe leaked the first details about Photoshop CS4, revealing that that it will support 64-bit processing, but only on Windows machines.

Photoshop product manager John Nack explained in his blog that the decision to release Photoshop x64 on one platform and not the other was driven by practical problems. The development team had been working on both versions side by side, but Apple’s decision to change the way 64-bit applications would need to be programmed for OS X forced the Adobe team to restart from scratch late in the game.

While Nack makes it apparent that there’s no bad blood between the companies, OS X users will miss the first x64 version of Photoshop, which should deliver a performance boost of around 8 to 12 percent under normal conditions. The true advantage of 64-bit processing – access to over 4GB of RAM – will probably not be tapped by most users for some time. For instance, Nack claims 64-bit processing has the potential to speed up the program by 10 times, but only for users working with very large files (as in 3.75 gigapixels) on very capable machines (as in 32GB of RAM).

As for other CS4 news, Adobe has kept mum on other new features, and no release date has yet been announced.

When you need to create a business flyer, edit a professional photo, or do any number of graphic design tasks, where do you go? What do you use? There's no question, Adobe Photoshop is the most popular and widely used graphical design software suite among professionals and amateurs alike, and for good reason. Even people who have never in their lives used Photoshop know the name, which has become synonymous with any kind of digital image editing. Photoshop is professional-grade paid software, though, and it's not exactly cheap even with some of the best Adobe Photoshop deals out there. Maybe you’ve never used it before and want to give a try before buying a license? That's likely why you're here looking for an Adobe Photoshop free trial (and perhaps other ways to save on this software if and when you decide to buy it). Whether you're an amateur graphic designer or an aspiring professional, we've got everything you need to know right here.
Is there an Adobe Photoshop free trial?

There is actually more than one Adobe Photoshop free trial available, depending on which version you're looking at. For the uninitiated, there are two main Photoshop packages. Adobe Creative Cloud is subscription-based, meaning you have to pay a monthly or annual fee for the license in order to use it. This is the most comprehensive Photoshop suite that gives you everything the software has to offer with more than 20 design apps as part of the package, including Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Premiere Pro, and typically costs $55 per month or $600 per year. There is a free trial available of Creative Cloud, although it only lasts for seven days. That's not a lot of time to explore and spend hands-on time with the full set of Creative Cloud apps. You also have to enter your credit card information in order to sign up and download the software; it's on you to cancel your subscription before the trial period ends or you'll be charged.

Adobe adds AI magic to Photoshop and Premiere Elements
Adobe Photoshop Elements can add animation to pictures.

Adobe, the developer of the iconic photo editing and graphic design app, Photoshop, has updated its budget editing apps. Photoshop Elements added several powerful, new features and improved performance. Adobe’s Premiere Elements is a low-cost video editor that incorporates many of the features of its more expensive sibling, Premiere, getting a similar speed boost along with AI features.

New for this year, Adobe Photoshop Elements includes more AI enhancements than ever before. For example, you can quickly add animation to still images, making a photo of a waterfall come to life. You only need to pick the Moving Elements tool, select the area to be animated and indicate the direction of movement. The computer calculates the changes within the water, turning the picture into a short video.
