How to change your Gmail Inbox theme

The default red and white color scheme of a Gmail inbox can be pretty drab, and it doesn’t take much to enhance your inbox theme with brighter colors or stunning photographs. In fact, changing your inbox theme in Gmail is actually pretty easy. How to change your Gmail inbox theme

Step 1: Open your browser and go to your Gmail account. Log in to your account.

Step 2: Click on the Settings gear icon located near the top right corner of your inbox.

Step 3: From the menu that appears, choose Themes.

Step 4: In the Pick Your Theme screen, you can select from a menu of preset photos, background colors, or drawings to be your inbox’s theme. It’s also worth mentioning that some of these themes will allow for further customization of them, such as setting a text background, adding a vignette, or adding a blur to your theme. To see these customization options, click on a theme. If the icons for those customization options appear at the bottom of the Pick Your Theme screen, then the theme is eligible for further customization. Click each icon to set your preferences.

You also have the option to use your own photos as an inbox theme. As Google notes, if you choose this option, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve uploaded your desired image to Google Photos first. Once your photo has been uploaded, click on the My Photos button in the lower left corner of the Pick Your Theme screen. Then, choose your photo and click Select. Set your customization preferences.

Step 5: Once you’re happy with your choices, click the blue and white Save button at the bottom of the screen.

Spam is one of the many enemies of the internet, and Google has come up with a new way to tackle it -- at least on your calendar. The search engine giant recently tweaked how events show on Google Calendar so that you'll only be able to display events from senders you know.

With the change, you'll still get email event invitations from unknown senders, but they will only appear in your calendar after you accept. This means that only meetings from people in your same company domain, people in your contacts list, or people you've interacted with before will be added to your calendar automatically. Typically, these are usually trusted people who won't be sending you spam meetings that can mess with your calendar.

Gmail will soon use machine learning to optimize its search profile and yield better results in its email client. The brand detailed on its Google Workspace Updates blog that it has developed a new machine learning model that will be able to identify the intent of email searches and deliver more contextual results.

Gmail has a new look, which brings together Chat, Meet, and other Google apps in a single navigation pane for easier access. The new look is rolling out to a wider audience starting today, but if you don't like it, you can easily revert back to classic Gmail.

First announced in January, the new Gmail layout is different from the classic layout since it eliminates the need to use different tabs for various Google apps. These get combined into one area in a list view at the top left of the screen, removing it from underneath your inboxes. You can specify which apps you want to include in the new view, or keep to a Gmail-only configuration. This is intended to help you get work done faster, but switching back to the old style is made easy, too.
