Targus Rolls Out New Notebook Backpacks

Targus last week unveiled four new notebook backpacks, each of which feature a padded notebook section which accommodates screen sizes up to 15.4 inches. The new Repel ($69.99), Ricket ($49.99), Drifter ($49.99) and Rogue ($39.99) Backpacks are all available now.

The Repel Backpack, said Targus, sports a trolley-pass through for attachment to a rolling piece of luggage, integrated carry handle, front pocket for storage of work related items like a pen of PDA and a nyflex-lined CD/MP3 pocket with a line-out headphone port. The Ricket Backpack offers multiple interior and exterior storage solutions and includes a CD pocket and line-out headphone port as well as a mesh water bottle holder on each side and compression straps designed to carry a jacket, sweater or additional file folders.

The Drifter Backpack is geared towards students and has a front pocket area for holding items like a cell phone or PDA and also Velcro pockets on each side for additional storage. The Rogue Backpack features a seven-pocket design and includes a mesh pocket as well as a zippered nylon pocket that is accessible from the outside of the backpack.

“Backpacks are the fastest growing category in the notebook case industry,” said Michael Greco, director, U.S. product marketing for Targus, in a statement. “No longer does the notebook backpack cater solely to a younger demographic. With more of corporate America shifting toward a casual dress code, the backpack is growing in acceptance and popularity for many workers. Targus’ latest backpacks have the versatility to meet the needs of students and professionals alike.”

Alienware m17 R5 laptop sitting next to a headset.

Dell announced updates to two of its 17-inch Alienware laptops, both of which sport the first 480Hz screens to ever debut on gaming laptops. It's available now as an option for the previously announced Alienware x17 R2, and it's debuting on the all-AMD Alienware m17 R5.

We got a taste of 480Hz laptop displays in May, but we didn't expect them to hit the market so soon. As we saw earlier this year, the Alienware laptops come with a Full HD resolution to hit the high refresh rate, and the response times are bit higher than gamers might be accustomed to -- 3ms as opposed to the typical 1ms.
