University Displays New Supercomputer A number of companies, including IBM, have been working together on a new supercomputer that was rolled out by BristolUniversity in England. Capable of 37 trillion calculations each second, Blue Crystal – as it’s known – will be used to help with research on aerospace engineering, climatechange and drug design. With a $14 million price tag it’s unlikely to be affordable to run those games really fast in your living room, however. "Serious research in manydisciplines can no longer be undertaken without high performance computing, and the University has recognized this through its investment in BlueCrystal," according to the director of Bristol’sadvanced computing research centre, Dr. Ian Stewart. "HPC-based research contributes significantly to University research income and will play an increasingly important role in teaching."

A wide range of new SSDs are facing overheating issues when pushed to their limits, thereby resulting in thermal shutdowns. The malfunction is specific to PCIe 5.0 SSDs based on the Phison PS5026-E26 controller inside. If you don't have a proper cooling solution in place, you could be in for a world of trouble.

The issue was first discovered by Phoronix and TechPowerUp back in May while using the Corsair MP700 SSD. According to Phoronix, the drive started malfunctioning within a few minutes of usage, where the operating system started generating file system errors. TechPowerUp, on the other hand, faced thermal shutdown in less than two minutes. It is noteworthy that the Corsair MP700 was originally supposed to launch with a beefy heatsink. However, Corsair ended up removing the thermal solution in the final retail product.

Samsung ViewFinity S9 vs. Apple Studio Display: a close comparison?

Samsung showcased the ViewFinity S9 studio monitor in January at CES 2023. Several months later, we finally have official pricing and availability details. According to Samsung, customers will be able to purchase it starting in August at a starting price of $1,599.

Judging by the price and features, it is pretty evident that Samsung has made a direct competitor to the Apple Studio Display. You get a similar 27-inch panel with a 5K resolution along with impressive color reproduction capabilities. Even the design language and port selection are seemingly inspired by Apple’s professional studio monitor.
