American eBay Sellers Grow Large, Sell Lots

Are you an eBay entrepreneur? Chances are there may be a few more in your neighborhood as well as new numbers from the online auction giant today reveal that over 2.2 million Americans use it for some form of income.

The survey, which was conducted by AC Nielsen for eBay in July, determined that more than 724,000 Americans use the service as their primary or secondary source of income. Additionally, another 1.5 million say they supplement their income by selling on a more casual basis.

The net result from all these sales? In the first six months of this year, eBay said, their American members alone sold enough products to collect $10.6 billion.

The AC Nielsen survey also showed that the number of people using eBay to make money has increased 68 percent since the last time it was conducted two years ago. Back in 2003, approximately 430,000 Americans were making some or all of their income off of selling things.

“eBay’s impact on job creation in the U.S. has been tremendous, and the health of our nation’s economy depends on employment,” said James K. Glassman, resident fellow, American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, who has analyzed the survey results. “A considerable amount of jobs have been created and enabled through eBay in the last few years, making it an important employment creation engine that many never considered just five years ago. The potential for entrepreneurs to realize success through eBay is significant.”

CES 2023: HD Hyundai’s Avikus is an A.I. for autonomous boat and marine navigation
Demonstration of NeuBoat level 2 autonomous navigation system at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

This content was produced in partnership with HD Hyundai.
Autonomous vehicle navigation technology is certainly nothing new and has been in the works for the better part of a decade at this point. But one of the most common forms we see and hear about is the type used to control steering in road-based vehicles. That's not the only place where technology can make a huge difference. Autonomous driving systems can offer incredible benefits to boats and marine vehicles, too, which is precisely why HD Hyundai has unveiled its Avikus AI technology -- for marine and watercraft vehicles.

More recently, HD Hyundai participated in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, to demo its NeuBoat level 2 autonomous navigation system for recreational boats. The name mashes together the words "neuron" and "boat" and is quite fitting since the Avikus' A.I. navigation tech is a core component of the solution, it will handle self-recognition, real-time decisions, and controls when on the water. Of course, there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes with HD Hyundai's autonomous navigation solution, which we'll dive into below -- HD Hyundai will also be introducing more about the tech at CES 2023.

"The pleasure of Busby's company is what I most enjoy," he reluctantly reads. "He put a tack on Miss Yancy's chair, and she called him a horrible boy. At the end of the month, he was flinging two kittens across the width of the room ..."
