The first legit hoverboard just got a lower price and a new video

Hoverboards have gotten a bad rap lately, what with their spontaneous combusting and faulty batteries, but now, ArcaBoard is here to set the record straight … and also show you what a real hoverboard looks like. We first told you about the world’s first true hoverboard (as in, a board that really does levitate) last Christmas, when it was made available for pre-order at Christmas for a whopping $19,900, but now, the company has some exciting updates to share. First off, you can knock five grand off that original price tag, as the ArcaBoard is now being advertised at $14,900, but more excitingly, the founders have shared a video of the device in action. And yes, friends, it looks like it works.

Heralded as a “revolutionary breakthrough for transportation,” the team behind ArcaBoard promises, “For the first time, every person will be able to fly anytime, anywhere.” Few of the technical aspects have changed — the hoverboard will still feature up to 272 horsepower and 430 pounds of thrust. Its 36 high-power electric ducted fans will keep you in the air for around six minute max, which will take you a little over a mile with a top speed of 12.5 miles per hour.

But never fear, thankfully, ArcaBoard now has replacement battery packs in the works, so that you can quickly substitute fresh juice if you want to stay hovering for more than six minutes (and why wouldn’t you?). This is a definite improvement over the previous solution to a dead battery — a 35-minute charging time.

And of course, the best part is the price cut, which was brought about by partnerships with companies like Southwest Composite Works Inc. in the U.S. and Eco Molding Co. in China.

So if you’re ready for a “new exhilarating experience,” go ahead and pre-order now.

CES 2023: HD Hyundai’s Avikus is an A.I. for autonomous boat and marine navigation
Demonstration of NeuBoat level 2 autonomous navigation system at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

This content was produced in partnership with HD Hyundai.
Autonomous vehicle navigation technology is certainly nothing new and has been in the works for the better part of a decade at this point. But one of the most common forms we see and hear about is the type used to control steering in road-based vehicles. That's not the only place where technology can make a huge difference. Autonomous driving systems can offer incredible benefits to boats and marine vehicles, too, which is precisely why HD Hyundai has unveiled its Avikus AI technology -- for marine and watercraft vehicles.

More recently, HD Hyundai participated in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, to demo its NeuBoat level 2 autonomous navigation system for recreational boats. The name mashes together the words "neuron" and "boat" and is quite fitting since the Avikus' A.I. navigation tech is a core component of the solution, it will handle self-recognition, real-time decisions, and controls when on the water. Of course, there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes with HD Hyundai's autonomous navigation solution, which we'll dive into below -- HD Hyundai will also be introducing more about the tech at CES 2023.

There's a scene in Mission Impossible 3 that you might recall. In it, our hero Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) tackles the movie's villain, holds him at gunpoint, and forces him to read a bizarre series of sentences aloud.

"The pleasure of Busby's company is what I most enjoy," he reluctantly reads. "He put a tack on Miss Yancy's chair, and she called him a horrible boy. At the end of the month, he was flinging two kittens across the width of the room ..."
