Are you a purchaser of consumer electronics who hates it when technicians and sales people throw around technical terms you need to Google to understand? You aren’t alone, the Consumer Electronics Association says, according to findings of a new research study they have published.
The study, said the CEA, focused on how consumers are not only seeking smarter homes but also ways of understanding them on their level. The research focused on five main home technologies, including distributed audio systems, structured wiring, automatic lighting and temperature regulation, designated home theater rooms and media servers. By using phrases created by the industry to describe these technologies, researchers determined that consumers want to have things told to them in ways which are descriptive but don’t involve too much tech jargon.
“This study shows us it is important to keep in mind that customers are looking for ways to make their homes a source of comfort and relaxation for themselves and their families. For these reasons, phrases that are not overly technical but are still descriptive will be the most effective,” said Joe Bates, director of research at CEA. “There is still a lot of space to educate consumers and help shape these product concepts in their minds.”
