LG Electronics and Microsoft took a page from DVR pioneer Tivo’s playbook Wednesday as they unveiled the new LG LRM-519 Digital Media Recorder. This DVR/DVD-recorder hybrid, which collects television programming from the Microsoft Program Service, is priced at $599.95 and available now.
The LRM-519, said LG Electronics, has a 160GB hard drive built into it and can manipulate recorded television programming in much the same way Tivo’s DVRs do. It can also record saved programming directly to a variety of DVD formats, including DVD+R Dual Layer recordable discs, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW.
Other features of the LRM-519 include getting 14 days of programming material from the Microsoft Program Guide service, two USB ports which can be used to connect an external hard drive for expanded storage options, home network connectivity via wired or wireless options and the ability to play/display JPEG, MP3 and WMA files.
