What if you could call an 800 number as your favorite song played on the radio and use your voice to purchase it through email? That’s the idea behind Music on Command, a new service announced today.
Music on Command, which currently uses a variety of online music retailers such as Yahoo! Music and MSN Music, requires that you register at their site. Once you have done so, you put a special 800 number on your cell phone’s speed dial. When a song playing on a monitored station in your local market hits the airwaves, you call the number and a voice-activated system prompts you for the frequency and state. Once Music on Command determines what song is playing, it emails you a link with purchasing information.
The vision of Jack Baxter, the developer behind the system, is that when you hear it and you like it and want it, you should be able to download it. He developed software in conjunction with Nielsen Broadcasting and L7 Inc Concept to enable listeners to be able to do so.
