SC 05 is the sixth annual bandwidth challenge, and is being held on November 12-18th in Seattle Washington. The contest challenges scientists and network engineers alike to innovate new and advanced techniques to push massive amounts of data to networked computers. It also features the latest in networking technology itself.
The key to the challenge not only is to move data, but to show a meaningful leap in networking technology.
“To win the Bandwidth Challenge, our innovative scientists and networking gurus not only stretch the bounds of network capacity, they stretch their imaginations to envision a future where colossal bandwidth resources are indispensable to scientific collaboration and discovery,” said Debbie Montano, SC 05 Bandwidth Challenge Chair.
The throughput amount is verified using gear donated by Spirent Communications. Qwest Communications is providing the bandwidth, and some participants hope to achieve somewhere in the range of 400-500 Gbps.
