Slacker Gets Serious, Appoints New Advisor

In a true David and Goliath story, the newly formed Slacker Music Service that hopes to take on the likes of Apple, and satellite radio companies XM and Sirius Radio, announced that they have added XM Radio co-founder Lon Levin as a company advisor.

Slacker is a number of things including a free ad-supported internet music service that lets you stream your favorite music using a standard web browser. The company also plans to launch a PC based jukebox application, a portable media player, and in-car satellite based music receivers. Sound a little jaunting for a new company doesn’t it? With Lon Levin on board, it might not seem so out-of-reach.

Lon Levin’s resume is impressive indeed. In addition to co-founding XM Radio Satellite, he has played a role in a number of other media, satellite and wireless companies including Mobile Satellite Ventures, XM Canada, and Terrestar Networks among others.

"Slacker has a truly disruptive approach to radio," said Lon Levin. "I am thrilled to be part of the next significant phase in great radio and music. Slacker is about providing an amazing music listening experience that is simple to use and wonderful to hear."

Slacker also let slip today that their Slacker Satellite Car Kits will be available later this year as will their new Wi-Fi enabled Portable Radio Player.

Autonomous vehicle navigation technology is certainly nothing new and has been in the works for the better part of a decade at this point. But one of the most common forms we see and hear about is the type used to control steering in road-based vehicles. That's not the only place where technology can make a huge difference.
