Meal-replacement Soylent shakes now come bottled and pre-mixed

Soylent, the curiously named meal replacement system, was already pretty simple when it debuted a couple years ago. Instead of “wasting” your time cooking and preparing ingredients, the shakes could be prepared by simply mixing a nutrient-packed powder with water. All in all, the process only took a couple minutes — but now the company is back with an even simpler system.

Just like version 1.0, Soylent 2.0 provides all the vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, and protein that your body needs — but this time, it comes pre-mixed and ready-to-drink in a 16 ounce bottle. Therefore, instead of making your shakes in batches and storing excess mixture, you can just buy a pack of bottles and drink one whenever you need a quick meal.

Extra convenience isn’t the only improvement either. Soylent also made some adjustments to the recipe so that version 2.0 is more healthy, nutritious, and environmentally friendly than its predecessor.

“Not only are its ingredients vegan, Soylent 2.0 reaches an unprecedented level of environmental sustainability with half of its fat energy coming from farm-free, algae sources,” the company said in a blog post. “This next generation agricultural technology has the potential to reduce the ecological impact of food production by orders of magnitude, signifying a major step toward a future of abundance, a world where optimal nutrition is the new normal.”

And that’s not all. In addition to a low glycemic index (49.2) that provides an even, sustained release of energy (no spikes and crashes), the new formula also doesn’t require refrigeration, and has a shelf life of one year. That means you could ostensibly just keep a couple bottles in your desk or car, without having to worry about spoilage.

Soylent 2.0 is available for pre-order starting today, and the company expects to begin shipping as early as October. If you’re interested but haven’t yet taken the plunge, new subscribers can get a 12-pack of Soylent 2.0 delivered straight to their doorsteps for $29.

Autonomous vehicle navigation technology is certainly nothing new and has been in the works for the better part of a decade at this point.
