You’ll never see a wackier selfie stick than this one

If you’re the kind of person whose stress levels rise every time you come within a few meters of someone’s fully extended selfie stick, then the sight of this bells-and-whistles design may cause you to pass out in horror.

With features such as auto-extension, built-in studio lights so you always look your best, and fully functioning fans for that glamorous windswept look, this is the most absurd selfie stick we’ve seen yet, though admittedly this one comes a close second.

But fear not, selfie-stick haters of the world – this particular model is not for sale. Well, not yet, anyway.

The bonkers contraption is the work of viral video agency Thinkmodo. Yes, this is the same crackpot team that came up with the bizarre “human torch drone.” This was an airborne design which, to those in the know, was a burning dummy attached to a drone. However, to those unaware of the truth, it would’ve looked more like someone flying around on fire.

The group has now put down the matches and gasoline and turned its attention to creating this wacky selfie stick. The working device, which took three months to build, is being used to promote the forthcoming season of Lifetime’s Unreal, a behind-the-scenes drama that follows the trials and tribulations of a dating contest show.

Noa Lindberg, who acts in the sticks’s promotional video (above), told Mashable it’s “a little bit heavier than a regular selfie stick,” perhaps not surprising considering all that extra functionality. Lindberg said that in many cases, the people she demonstrated the stick to commented, “It’s so amazing, where can I get it?” – a response that suggests the device could soon be coming to a Kickstarter webpage near you. Though let’s hope not.

Google today announced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, its flagship phones for 2022, at its #MadeByGoogle October event. Both of these devices will replace the now discontinued Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, slotting in at precisely the same price points of $600 and $900, while the Pixel 6a will bring up the rear as the cheaper Pixels.

As with all smartphones released this year, it's an iterative update. There's a lot of stuff, sure, but none of it is strictly new. The camera visor, for one. Yes, it's the same, but it's now covered by a metal banding to protect the glass underneath. It's a neat look that works with the colors -- Obsidian, Snow, and Lemongrass (Hazel for the Pro) -- to provide the Pixel's classic dual-tone color scheme. The displays remain good and get even brighter, stopping out at 1,500 nits. If that means nothing to you, let's just say it should almost as bright as the very good iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Have a Fitbit? You’ll soon be forced to link a Google account

After purchasing Fitbit in 2019, Google is moving to mandate the use of Google accounts on new Fitbit devices. The company shared the news on a help page, adding that it would be winding down Fitbit account functionality by 2025. While Google is pushing its own brand of upcoming smartwatches, there's still substantial interest in Fitbit's well-known products.

"After we launch Google accounts on Fitbit in 2023, some uses of Fitbit will require a Google account, including to sign up for Fitbit or activate newly released Fitbit devices and features," Fitbit said "If you have a Fitbit account, after the launch of Google accounts on Fitbit, you'll have the option to move Fitbit to your Google account or to continue to use your existing Fitbit devices and services with your Fitbit account for as long as it's supported. Support of Fitbit accounts will continue until at least early 2025."
