The best 4K TV deals for Labor Day: LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio, and more

To paraphrase George Herbert: Where there’s a public holiday, there’s a shopping bonanza — and that’s what we’re seeing right now, as there’s a massive sale on 4K TVs from the likes of LG, Samsung, and Vizio to celebrate Labor Day (weekend), and with pricing starting as low as $280 for a 50-inch and $780 for a 70-inch, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Best 4K TV deals for Labor Day

As usual, the Labor Day 4K TV sale will run from Friday, August 30 through Tuesday, September 3, spanning Labor Day weekend and the main event on September 2. But since there’s a limited amount of stock set aside for the best deals, you will need to act fast to score a bargain — spend a few seconds researching the television on offer and you could just miss out.

That’s where we come in. Just as we did for Prime Day, and will do for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we’ve combed through the hundreds of TVs on offer and selected the few that are too good to miss, with all of them having four things in common: They’re big brand, have a crisp, clear 4K Ultra HD screen, smart software to boot, and are deserving of your hard-earned cash.

How to choose a 4K TV

The secret to finding the 4K TV of your dreams is preparation. In a world where having a large television is seen to be somewhat of a status symbol, it’s easy to impulse buy the largest one you see, but don’t. After all, the last thing you want to do is shell out $3,500 for an LG C9 OLED TV only to find that it won’t fit through the door, let alone on the wall — so know your limit.

Next, consider the features that could be of use. There’s a lot to choose from, ranging from Roku OS on TCL’s latest TVs to Google Chromecast on select Sony and Vizio models. There’s also the predicament of OLED or QLED for die-hard movie fanatics after the best at-home viewing experience money can buy (aside from 8K), and Dolby Vision or HDR10+ for us mere mortals.

If you’re after a bog-standard experience, there isn’t a whole lot to keep an eye out for, other than a 4K Upscaler — a software feature that takes both HD and Full HD material and spins it into a higher 4K Ultra HD resolution, so you can get the most out of your new television. Fortunately, almost all 4K TVs have one, though performance will vary depending on the brand.

The basic rule we follow is: A high-end Samsung 4K TV will handle all the core features — namely HDR and 4K Upscaling — a lot better than a bottom-line Hisense. Similarly, LG, Sony, and Vizio also come out on top, with Sony leading the pack with its 4K X-Reality Pro Engine, followed by LG and Samsung (which are neck-and-neck), and Vizio at the bottom of the table.

To be honest, the average consumer isn’t going to notice a difference between any of them. The Sony will fair just as well as the Vizio for anyone coming from an HDTV, so don’t let that deter you from pulling the trigger on that awesome Vizio deal. In fact, if you aren’t fussed about having a top-end QLED or OLED, we recommend saving a few bucks by snagging a Vizio.

If you still can’t make a decision, we’d recommend the 55-inch TCL 5-series for those looking for a modest-sized television to sit at the center of their home entertainment setup, the 55-inch Samsung Q60R for anyone looking for an affordable step into the wonderful world of QLED, and the 65-inch LG C9 OLED for the best all-round viewing experience (all above).

Those in the market for something a little different, like a new laptop or maybe even a mattress, ought to check out our list of the best Labor Day sales. We’ll be updating it right through the end of the big event, so it’s worth a bookmark. While you’re at it, why not follow our dedicated deals account on Twitter? Weekend deal: Save $50 on this popular 4K dash cam at Best Buy
The Nextbase 622GW 4K Dash Cam on a car's windshield.

Whether it's a minor fender bender or a more significant car accident, having a dash cam can be a lifesaver, especially if you're dealing with insurance. Of course, there are a lot of dash cams to pick from with various levels of quality and features. Luckily, one of the better dash cams is on sale right now, the Nextbase 4k Dash Cam, and while it usually goes for $400, you can grab it from Best Buy for just $350. While that may not seem like much, $350 for a 4k-capable dash cam is impressive.

Why you should buy the Nextbase 622GW 4K Dash Cam
The Nexbase 622GW is packed with some impressive features, such as the 4k resolution, which films at 30fps, although it can film at 60fps at 2k and, interestingly, 120fps at 1080p, although we doubt you'll very much run the last mode regularly. More importantly, it comes with some advanced image stabilization to help deal with the vibrations and bumps from your car, plus it comes with some next-level night vision and image polarization to help with sunny conditions that might otherwise cause glare. Even better, it has internal processing capable of helping with misty conditions, making this a great camera for all-weather driving, which is impressive for such a small package.

Best 4K monitor deals: Get a 27-inch 4K monitor for $270 and more
Dual monitors set up on a desk.

So, you got yourself a shiny new desktop or laptop. Congratulations. Now it's time to start thinking about some of the accessories you'll need, and we're not just talking about a good keyboard and mouse combo. For instance, you might consider the best 4K monitor deals because it's super helpful to have an extra monitor even if you're not using the computer for work or productivity tasks. The extra monitor allows you to keep additional content onscreen, like Discord, a browser window open to YouTube or your favorite streaming platform, or some other activity. You can continue working, gaming, or browsing on the main display, while the rest is still visible on the secondary display. To do this, you'll want to check out some of the best monitor deals out there.
Today's best 4K monitor deals
There's a lot to choose from, but if you want to utmost quality and best visual experience you can opt for a 4K ultra-HD monitor. And yes, if you must know, there are 5k monitors available, too. Like a 4K TV, they're designed to display ultra-high-resolution content at a solid framerate, usually 60 frames per second or above -- 120Hz is the sweet spot. To help out a little, and help you sift through the vast selection, we've rounded up the best 4K monitor deals, all in one place.

Are 4K monitors worth it?
You might be wondering is 4K monitors are really worth it? After all, computer media and experiences are mostly different than anything you'll encounter on your average TV. But here's the thing, computers have access to a much larger array of resolutions, including high and ultra-high resolutions. Moreover, computers benefit from much smoother refresh rates, sometimes in excess of 120Hz -- 120 frames per second. That means you get a much smoother picture, a much better experience -- especially while gaming -- and frankly, there's nothing quite like it. Plus, the higher the supported resolution the higher you can crank the quality of your desktop and laptop visuals, provided they support higher resolutions.
What is the best size for a 4K monitor?
It really depends on what you're using the monitor for and what activities you plan to partake in. For example, if you're gaming or watching movies, the larger the display the better. If you're just going to be doing busywork and need enough screen real estate for a couple of browser windows then you can get by with a smaller monitor. For gamers, we always recommend looking at ultra-wide and curved displays because they're more immersive. In regards to size, the sweet spot is really anything about 27-inches or above. Ideally, you want 32-inches or so, that way you can use a single monitor with split windows to have multiple things going on at a time. Things get even better if you decide to expand with an extra monitor or two.
