Giving the gift of Disney+ this Christmas couldn’t be easier

Disney+ had a blockbuster first month in service, raking in an estimated 9.5 million daily users and topping the chart for the most searched term on Google for the whole of 2019. So it’s safe to say it’s a fantastic stocking-filler this Christmas. But how on Earth do you gift someone access to a streaming service? Do you sign up for a fresh account, input your credit card information, then share the email address and password, and hope they don’t accidentally add to your masses of credit card debt? Not exactly.

To make giving the gift of Disney+ this Christmas as easy as possible, Disney has launched a virtual Disney+ Subscription Card. The way it works is simple: You pay $70 for a year’s access, set the date you want the membership to start (Christmas Day, duh!), and input the recipient’s email address, then Disney will reach out to them at the specified date and time to walk them through the registration process — the perfect way to show someone you’re thinking of them, even if you aren’t spending the big day with them.

After all, Disney+ really is the gift that keeps on giving. Home to a broad range of exclusive content that can’t be found elsewhere, like Netflix, Disney+ is home to all of the studio’s leading titles — headlined by every episode of The Simpsons to date — and almost every movie in its collection, including Miracle on 34th Street, Iron ManStar Wars, and Toy Story. Better yet, Disney is always adding to its stable with new shows, movies, and even exclusive Disney+ content, such as the immensely popular The Mandalorian.

Don’t forget about the Disney+ Bundle

For those looking to take the experience a bit further, Disney has the Disney+ Bundle, which sees both ESPN+ and Hulu added to the mix as well. Granted, this isn’t included in the Disney+ Subscription Card, but it’s well worth considering as a gift to your entire family. This comes in at just $13 per month. There’s no way to pay this in full, unfortunately, so you’ll have to keep your credit card information linked, but doing so saves you $5 each month ($60 per year) on what it would cost to subscribe to the trio separately.

As we’ve said before, the Hulu membership that is included is home to hundreds of network shows, blockbuster movies, and Hulu originals; while ESPN+ is a portal to thousands of live sporting events from the likes of the FA Cup, MLB, MLS, NBA, NHL, and UFC Fight Night. In a nutshell, the Disney+ Bundle covers the two major bases; entertainment and sports — so it’s a bit of a two-sided present. You save yourself (and the entire family) $60 over the course of the year, and everyone is drowning in content. It’s a win-win.

The most likable Disney villains, ranked
Ursula with her eels Flotsam and Jetsam in The Little Mermaid

For many viewers, Disney's villains are the best characters of them all. It's no wonder why Cruella and Maleficent got their own movies -- they often outshined the heroes and became the real star of their respective shows. But why? Why are Disney villains so damn likable? Is it their awesome outfits? Their fantastically shady lines? Or their engrossing character?

Let's face it, the villains normally have more personality than the heroes and provide so much more to the story, whether it's humor, sly wit, and in some cases, genuine terror. Disney wouldn't be Disney without compelling villains, and it's time to give them the love they deserve.

Disney+ launches cheaper plan with ads — but not on Roku
Disney Plus on Roku.

The new advertising-based tier of Disney+ launches today. And while it's not exactly the sort of thing that should demand a whole lot of explanation — it's a little less expensive at $8 a month, but also has ads — there is one important thing that should be noted.

This new ad-based tier isn't available if you're on Roku. And that's kind of a big deal since Roku is the largest streaming platform in the U.S. and the second largest in the rest of the world.
